Taiwan Comics: Ding Pao-Yen x Chen Pei-Hsiu to be Showcased at the 2025 MoCCA Arts Festival

Taiwanese artists Ding Pao-Yen (丁柏晏(日安焦慮)) and Chen Pei-Hsiu (陳沛珛) are set to captivate audiences at the 2025 MoCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art) Arts Festival, New York City’s premier independent comic and cartoon festival, scheduled for March 15-16.

 

Supported by the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, Taiwanese comic artists and illustrators have been featured at the "Taiwan Comics" table at MoCCA Arts Festival since 2017, introducing diverse and innovative works to an international audience. This year, Ding Pao-Yen and Chen Pei-Hsiu will represent Taiwan among more than 500 participating creators at this prestigious festival.

 

Ding Pao-Yen’s work merges contemporary art, science fiction, and gaming culture. His dynamic storytelling and innovative visual narratives have earned him international recognition. At MoCCA, Ding will showcase a range of his independently published zines and premiere his latest graphic novel, Not Ready For Real Life.

 

Chen Pei-Hsiu’s works, known for their introspective and emotionally resonant themes, have been published in multiple languages. Attendees can explore her acclaimed publications, including For the Time Being, Still Young, Still New, and Les Souvenirs en Trop, each offering deeply relatable narratives to global readers.

 

Since 2002, the MoCCA Arts Festival, organized by the New York-based Society of Illustrators, has drawn over 9,000 attendees annually. The festival celebrates illustration across all genres through exhibitions, programming, and artist showcases. Visitors can meet award-winning creators, attend lectures, and participate in interactive demonstrations.

 

In addition to presenting their works, Ding Pao-Yen and Chen Pei-Hsiu will offer unique caricature experiences at their MoCCA tables. Ding will sketch participants in his signature intricate, cyberpunk-inspired style, while Chen will illustrate them in her delicate, hand-drawn aesthetic that captures human emotions.

About Ding Pao-Yen (丁柏晏(日安焦慮))

Born in Taiwan in 1988, Ding Pao-Yen explores contemporary art and comics, drawing inspiration from video games and science fiction. His work is characterized by intricate linework and surreal, immersive narratives. Selected as one of Worldwide Comics Explosion: 10 Emerging Authors from the World of Comics at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2023, he also completed a residency in Angoulême, France in 2019. His works include Dinosaur Field Guide, Maybe I Should Find A Job, Road to Nowhere, From Dream Dimension, and Console, 2073 (winner of the Taiwan Golden Comic Awards for Comic of the Year in 2023).

About Chen Pei-Hsiu (陳沛珛)

Chen Pei-Hsiu is an award-winning Taiwanese illustrator and comic artist who had a background in archaeological illustration at Academia Sinica before transitioning to a freelance career. Her works, recognized for their introspective and emotionally evocative themes, have been published in multiple languages. She has been shortlisted twice for the Prize for Young Talent at the Angoulême International Comics Festival and received the Bologna Ragazzi Award, as well as accolades from the 3×3 International Illustration Awards. Her publications include The Old Street Creek, Sleeping All Day Long, For the Time Being (winner of the 2021 Taipei Book Fair Award and Golden Comic Award), Still Young, Still New, and Les Souvenirs en Trop.
